House of Bricks

On Friday 30th of July, the House of Bricks people came to our school. We did four rotations. There was car racing, house building, mosaic and building a tower. Now I will tell you all about it.

My favourite Lego activity was the racing car because my buddy and I made a car, tested it and saw there was something wrong. We edited it, and tested it and kept making changes, and eventually, we won 1st place! I learnt that the longer it is, the further it will go.

My least favourite Lego activity was the tower because We kept on disagreeing on stuff, and we ended up accidentally breaking the whole thing about 5 times. We got last place because someone tripped over it and broke it before it was measured.

The activity that tested my perseverance the most was the tower because we always disagreed on everything, and It was very annoying when it broke at the end.

The most challenging activity was the mosaic, because it was difficult snapping the little lego bits into place.

I did not enjoy working collaboratively with others because when it comes to lego houses, I want to work independently so that I can create what I want to create.

Perfect Poem; Loveless Litter

Hi guys, today I am going to show you my Reading Create. I have made a poem, because I think I am good at them. Do you like writing poems? I hope you like my poem as I have worked hard on it. What's your favourite poem? I have written two other poems and have posted them. please check them too!

Oy! All of you! Stop littering!

Pollution makes birds unable to sing.

Rubbish makes nature sad,

But a world without rubbish would be rad!

In the time of the dino’s there wasn't any plastic,

They didn't use anything harmful, which must have been fantastic.

In most places you look, there is rubbish in sight

Just chuck it in the bin where it belongs,

and then the birds won't choke at night.

And please, when you don't need it, turn off the light

Then we won't be wasting electricity, and everything will be alright.

Don't chuck gum on the ground when your finished with it,

Or don’t even chew gum at all,

And when your shopping, don't buy anything with palm oil,

Because palm oil brings palm trees and habitats into the soil.

What was your favourite part in this poem? Please answer my questions in the comments!

Marvelous mindset

Kia Ora! Welcome to my blog. This week, for reading, I have written a poem about what you feel when you have Fixed mindset and growth mindset. After you have read this, Please tell me in the comment section what you feel when you have Fixed mindset and when you have Growth mindset. I have worked a lot on this, so please comment!

GROWTH MINDSET

Every day my best I will try,

Not a single tear, nor a sigh.

To Growth mindset I will take heed,

But to Fixed mindset I have no need.

For Fixed mindset makes a horrible day,

Because of all the horrible things it does say,

But Growth mindset is ever so kind,

It leaves the mean words way behind.

 Growth mindset makes me feel,

Oh so happy I need to squeal,

And Growth mindset will never let in

The Fixed mindset who has bad times within,

Growth mindset will always make you feel enlightened,

But never, ever, frightened.

I hope you know a bit more about Growth mindset and Fixed mindset. Here is a few questions:

When you fall over on you bike, do you usually have Fixed mindset or Growth mindset?

When you feel Growth mindset, what do you think?  I can't do this  OR   I can do it even better if I try.

Please answer in the comment section. If you want to see another poem by me, I am going to post one about the war. Thanks for reading!

My poem - The War

Hello again! Welcome to my blog. Today, I will post a poem that I wrote on ANZAC day. It is about war. I have imagined what it would've been like for the soldiers that had to go to war. I have also thought about what the soldiers would have been feeling. Here is a fact: In some wars, boys as young as 16 were sent to battle! I think that they probably would have felt very scared. Here is my poem!

The War

The War, The War,

What a beastly thing

The War, The War,

It ruined everything

The soldiers, the soldiers,

So full of power and heart,

The soldiers, the soldiers,

So young and smart

Training, training,

Then carted off to war,

Oh, dear,

They think it’s a terrible bore!

They march off to the battlefield

Raising their shining sword and shield

Rushing at the roaring enemy

People just a town from there

All put their books down to stare

The screeching sound of bomb and sirens

Warn them to duck underground,

To a secret annexe

All safe and sound

It does not, though, block out

The sound bombs again and again,

And on the battlefield it’s just insane

In other underground rooms

Kids would say,

“We hate it here! We want to come out!”

But the mother says not to,

There’s danger about

Finally, about half a decade later,

The war has ended.

Thousands were dead.

But some were only just mended.

We are lucky to have no war,

There is no way we want more!

It is a bit long, and I worked on it a lot. I hope you like it! Do you like writing poems? I hope you do! I have written some other poems. If I can, I will blog them! Please comment! I have written a poem about growth mindset above. Thanks for reading on my blog!

Umbrella writing - movie chunk

Ki ora! Welcome back to my blog. This week, we have been writing a chunk from an animated short movie that we have watched. It is called Umbrella, and it is about empathy. A little boy called Dorris was at a Children's Home, and a little girl with a yellow umbrella came and donated a box of toys to the Home. The yellow umbrella was a lot like the one Dorris's dad had. The girl did not want to donate her old toys. This is my chunk I wrote. Can you find some adverbs?

Umbrella

Early one gloomy morning, the brown door to Miss Elem’s Home for Children creaked and swung open. The girl with the mustard yellow umbrella hesitated before slowly stepping through the door and placing her umbrella on the umbrella stand. Dorris swiftly swung his head around the doorframe, not wanting to be seen. Standing off to the side, the girl surveyed the joyous scene as the happy kids dived into the box for hidden treasures. The girl grinned coyly as her eyes traced the young boy shooting around like a rocket. Her simper slid off her face as she glanced back at the umbrella stand and all she saw were drips of water. Her precious umbrella was gone.

Here are the meanings of some words you might not understand:

Hesitated = stop to think about it for a second before you do it
Surveyed = looking slowly at someone or something
Joyous = happy and joyful
Coyly = smiling is a shy way
Simper = a happy smile
Precious = something that you really like

If you like this blog, Please comment! Tell me if you found the adverbs!

Suss Out Statistics

Kia ora! Today, we are going to learn about Statistics. My goal was:  Display data using a stem and leaf graph, choose an appropriate data, display using more than one variable, interpret information from graphs plan an investigation.
First of all, do you know what Data is? It is Information. You need this so that you can create a Graph.

For our TUMU TEAMS BIRTHDAY Graph, we started off like this:

The teachers collected Data by asking Rāta people who were born in January to stand up, and then we counted them. Then The February people in Rāta, and so on. Then, we moved on to Mānia, and then Korokio, then Kōhia. In the end, It looked like this:

We made a copy of the Google sheet, and then made two graphs. We wrote some statements  about them. We had to make two different kind of graphs, so I did a column chart, and a stacked bar chart.

Have you ever made a graph?
If so, do you know what kind it was?
Please comment. See you next time!
